Steam Controller on Mac

Hi,

Currently my controller is a Logitech somthingorother, which works with my Mac but does not work with Marvel Heroes. It's a bit disappointing as I've always thought the game would be great with a gamepad. I'm looking into buying a Steam controller but from what I can tell it's not necessarily supported.

Does anyone have experince with Marvel Heroes + Steam Controller + Mac? Recommended or no?

Dropped item names not appearing.

From the patch notes: "Fixed an issue in which dropped item names would not appear when using a controller."

I'm playing with a controller (95%, switching to mouse for UI), and never had this problem before -- however, I'm having this problem since today's patch, and it's really annoying. Can anyone else confirm?

Please increase the deadzone from 20 to 30

Since there's no "walk" functionality in game and everything is either running or not, can we have this? It wouldn't affect the menus a lot, either.
I have a fairly new Xbox gamepad (2 years) and the X axis tilts slightly to the left, so my char starts walking to the left something.

I can increase it manually via bindings, but it will be better if we can have this by default. At least increase it from 20 to 25.

I've been trying out the controller experience over the last couple of weeks, and I gotta say, I'm pleasantly surprised. Most heroes work really well, and Target Lock does wonders to correct some targetting issues that I had with mouse. The downside is the lack of precision of teleport powers, inventory management and a few "bugs".

Regarding teleports, it would be great if their maximum distance travelled could scale like Black Panther's movement powers, so a teleport would only reach maximum distance at the third consecutive activation, so on the first activation it would travel short distances, making it suitable for combat. Right now, with some characters like Doom, Loki and Wiccan, I have to use my travel power to reposition, as the teleport takes me too far from my target (this is terrible for summoners).

About Inventory and UI management, in all fairness, I don't think it'll ever work on a gamepad as well as it does with mouse + keyboard. There's just too much going on, and many commands and "layers" of UI to address, so the optimal path is playing with gamepad + mouse. I'd just like to report that the Right Trigger doesn't work for scrolling some lists, like the Story mode chapters:

As for actual bug reports, Magik is unable to summon Fist, and the forced returning to waypoint, that have been reported before, are the biggest issues I've encountered so far.

Finally, I didn't get to test every power on every hero, but I did test all heroes and I've found some pretty problematic issues with the default travel distance on some lunge/leap powers. I've gathered the worst offenders in this video:

Namely, the powers which I'd like to ask to lock on the target are Black Pather's Slashing Lunge (main spender of the movement build), Gambit's Bo Vault (buffs melee powers), She Hulk's Opening Statement (generates 3 combo points) and Wolverine's Crimson Leap (one of the Bleed stacks).

Lastly, I'd like to ask for extra Power buttons, especially a dedicated key for crowd control powers. With the help of @Alliterate I could improve my experience by adding a toggle to access the second bar dynamically, what really helps some heroes like Doctor Doom and Doctor Strange, but I'd like to see this issue addressed "officially".

Thank you for this feature, it's refreshing and surprisingly effective for combat (in some cases much more than keyboard + mouse), and I look forward to upcoming fixes.

I would love for players to give a rundown of what your controller bindings are. There are many different controller playstyles and I want to test them all.

Screenshots and text accepted. It would be great to have a description of why you chose to map what action to what button. If you have a particular character(s) the bindings work best for, write it down.

Q:What are the default bindings?
A:


Q: I don't like the default bindings, can I change them?
A: Yes, go into Options -> Gamepad

Q: What controllers do you support?
A: Xbox 360, Xbox One, Steam Controller, a handful of Logitech controllers.

Q: Does this work on Mac?
A: Not officially. The controller manufacturers we support do not officially support the Mac OS and we get inconsistent results. We will update this thread if that changes.

Q: What is Menu Mode?
A: When using a controller and a UI screen appears the game will go into Menu Mode. Your hero cannot move or activate powers in this mode.

Q: How do I control the cursor in Menu Mode?
A: Left analog stick will control the cursor position. Right analog stick will scroll up and down within a window. A is accept/Yes and B is cancel/No.
You can also use the A button to select items in your inventory. B button will act as a right click.

Q: Why didn't you add Dpad support for navigating menus?
A: We didn't have enough time or resources.

Q: What if I don't want to use the controller to manage my inventory?
A: You can switch between mouse/keyboard and controller at any time.

Q: Why doesn't a specific power work on a specific hero?
A: Please report the specific issue (hero and power) and we will look into it.

Q: I can't go through a specific portal, what should I do?
A: We have a few bugs with going through portals, please specific why portal you were trying to go through below.

Q: My hero keeps attacking how do I stop that?
A: We have a few bugs with continuous/default attacks, try using another power to get out of the animation. Please report below as specifically as possible which hero and what power you were using.

Q: What should I do if my controller isn't working?
A:

  • Reset to the default bindings on the Options->Gamepad Tab.

  • Make sure your controller is configured correctly by going to Control Panel-> All Control Panel Items-> Devices and -- Printers. Right click your controller and go to Game Controller settings.

  • Make sure you don't have 3rd party controller software running.
  • Make sure you are using our default bindings Options-> Gamepad Tab -> Enable Default Bindings.

Q: What if I want to use my 3rd party software for controller support.
A: Don't use our default bindings Options-> Gamepad Tab -> Enable Default Bindings.

Q: How do I accept party invites and Holo-sim invites, etc...?
A: Unfortunately we weren't able to use Menu Mode for these specific invite UI prompts. Please use the mouse and keyboard for now. We will fix it in a future update.

A gamepad quirk with the dead zones create massive FPS issues, specially for M+K players

I'm going to tag @KingBacon and @SpiderNat here since I think this is a major issue that might have gone unnoticed for several months.

In-game, when you move the hero and also use the mouse at the same time, the game's FPS will do down to a crawl.

Please, notice that every time I start moving the mouse (mouse starts "blinking"), I have a loss of about 40-45 FPS!!

Since I use a gamepad it's not a big issue, but M&K players could have been having this issue since months ago? I'll explain why: Since the game's default deadzone it's not big enough, a player could have a gamepad connected AND triggering this issue with the Right Analog Stick without him/her knowing! It's noticeable with the Left Analog Stick because the hero would start moving, but the Right Analog Stick does nothing.

So there are the steps:

  1. Put the right analog stick in a way that should be OUTSIDE the dead zone
  2. Leave the gamepad in a place where it won't move.
  3. Now try to play the game normally with the Mouse and Keyboard.

As you can see, you will have a permanent 30+ FPS loss everytime you'll try to move your hero with the mouse.


No idea how you guys will fix it, but currently I'm manually editing the deadzones from 0.2 to 0.3 in MarvelInputUserSettings.ini:

Steam Controller not functional with Marvel Heroes

The guy in charge of Gamepad update wasnt thinking of Steam even though MH and Steam are partners the Default controller for this game is Xbox.

There are 2 keys on the back of Steam Controller that arent bindable you dont have much freedom which this system as they say we would have.

The official key bindings for MH2016 have the SC setup so that the left stick is joystick move and right pad is mouse. This no longer works since 2 updates ago. Tried everything i can think of to reset. It simply will not read mouse and joystick at the same time anymore, its one or the other it seems.

Menu wheel for controllers is empty.

So I booted up the game today and went to check my inventory. There are no icons on the menu wheel. It's empty, and they are not selectable. Menu wheel the equivalent of a gal bladder. Vestigial. I rebooted. Closed steam then rebooted. Restarted computer and all. Only thing I haven't done is reinstall. It shouldn't take that. It was fine yesterday and I make no modifications to any games or files.

Using a 360 controller, when I bring up the radial menu it's all blank. Happened with newest update.

There's no way to leave a party with gamepad only

You can invite people and create a party, but leaving the party is broken, the cursor disappears.

Can't select a Lucky Card with the gamepad, we are forced to use the mouse

@KingBacon , @SpiderNat , @Chrian , can you guys take a look at this and please please enable the gamepad cursor on the Lucky Card select screen?

This game allegedly features "Full Controller Support" and this new feature completely breaks that.

I would have been good to have a test run for this on Test Center, BTW, @AgentVapor

Spiderman Signature, Amazing Smash, not giving Spirit on use with controller

I've been playing with this for about two hours. If I use the keyboard to activate the power, I get the spirit back as soon as I press the key. When I activate the ability on my controller, I don't get the spirit from the ability. I've not seen this issue with any other of my characters signature abilities.

Wireless Xbox Gamepad not working after Windows 10 Anniversary update

Quick note is that I have tried the pad in other games and its working fine, also within Windows the pad is still listed as an Xbox 360 controller.

Within Marvel Heroes the gamepad has stopped working after I received the Anniversary update to Windows 10. I have tried restarted the game, the PC, reconnecting the pad, trying multiple controllers, all nothing. The buttons or the movement are not responding and I am not sure where to troubleshoot next as the pad is working fine in all the rest of my applications and games.

Any suggestions on what I should do next to get this working again?

I just used my PS4 Controller to play MH today and it was great.

Had to get used to it but once you got used to it its really great, i suppose the new update with 1 bar only will make it easier to use a controller that and i simply had to re-bind the buttons.

Problem is prior to today i never knew that MH had PS4 Controller support, i only knew it had XboX controller support and Steam controller support.

Would be nice if you could add to the F.A.Q (2nd question)[Sticky in this sub-forum] that PS4 controller is supported too.

How to sprint/dash/fast travel using the Default Gazillion Steam Controller

Does anyone know how to dash/sprint/fast travel using the default Gazillion steam controller configuration? I have been mashing and pushing every button combo there is, I feel that this feature may not be available with the steam controller?

Also, what is the button to use interact with vendors? It says I need to hit the A button, but when I press the A button on the controller it doesn't do anything!

Combat teleport

Anybody else experiencing mixed results with teleport powers?

They seem to be amazing for traveling long distances. However, combat teleporting gives me mixed results. Nightcrawler loses target if you stop Brimstone Beatdown to do melee. Rogue's Kirigi teleport takes you too far from combat which is what I use it for (dodge boost in a rotation). I think this needs consideration and all teleport powers should easily teleport to the target unless facing away or a target is dropped intentionally, and they should not lose a target when switching powers.

My suggestion is the creation of a button to turn auto-aim on/off, This button would be near the gamepad button bindings.

what is auto-aim?

Playing with a gamepad gives you the ability to "lock your target". When you use a skill, this skill will target that enemy.

But, even with your target locked, some skills do not track your foe (usually movement skill, like dashs and teleports)

And some skill do lock when you don't want it to lock , like channeled ranged skills (Punisher's "Full Auto", Magneto's "Metal Tempest", Raccoon's "Big Farkin' Gun") and Spider-man's dash "Amazing Acorbatics"

The problem

This "imposition" limits you gamaplay. Playing as SM, your dash leads you directly to enemy. When playing as Raccoon, you can't wave your BFG without unlock your target...

In other hand, I'd like Juggernaut's "Lariat" and SSurfer's "Subspace Slipstream" aiming the locked target
